A Church-Based Approach to Ending Family Homelessness

Pack a Bag For Franklin County kids

bags    Bridge of Hope, North Central Iowa’s mission is to end and prevent homelessness for women and children in our communities. In addition to serving families who are directly a part of Bridge of Hope, we seek to exemplify Christ’s unconditional love within our community.

Did you know that almost 400 students, age five to seventeen, right here in Hampton-Dumont, CAL, and West Fork are living in poverty according to a report from Iowa State University? These are our neighbors, our children’s friends, and even more importantly, a part of our community.

Research shows that poverty has an adverse affect on the academic outcomes of children, especially during early childhood, affecting concentration and memory. The National Center for Education also reports a national drop-out risk four and a half times that of higher income families. As a community we can help change these trends by helping these children have the supplies they need to be successful.

As school approaches, Bridge of Hope would like to help these children have a positive start to the school year by providing back packs filled with school supplies. Back packs and school supplies are being collected at the Bridge of Hope office throughout August and will be distributed to children in need in our own communities. You may donate supplies, back packs, or any combination of items. You may also choose the school it will be donated to if you wish.

Donations may be brought to the Bridge of Hope office located at 420 1st Avenue NE in Hampton (third floor) at any time, If staff is unavailable, please feel free to leave any donations with staff at the Church of the Living Word.

Together we can make a positive difference for the children of our communities. Please consider helping a child succeed this school year!
