Neighboring Groups Are Where It’s At!

“Bridge of Hope”-what a wonderful name! Its purpose is to give single moms a pathway to success through good old-fashioned neighborliness. What does that look like? For me, it was finding a kitchen table and helping our mom move it into a new apartment. It was bringing over a meal on a day when she was tired of working all day and had hungry mouths to feed. It was taking the kids to a movie or to the park and giving her an hour or two of quiet time. It was making a phone call and asking, “How can I pray for you this week?”

The neighboring volunteers are a team working together with the mom to listen, encourage, point them in the right direction and support their decisions. It feels like we become a family of friends who share life experiences and learn from each other. The results were positive and rewarding. I have seen growth towards independence, a positive attitude, spiritual maturity and financial responsibility. It has been a good opportunity for me to help someone in the community who needs a friend and a helping hand.

I am eager to meet another new mom who is looking to move beyond the status quo and become all she was created to be. I pray that God will again reveal his divine plan and purpose for all involved as we step out in faith and cross the Bridge of Hope.
